Matt Aussem to Become Titan (12-5-16)
Matt Aussem, a 6-2 left side hitter from Glendale, Wisconsin has decided to continue his education and to participate in men's volleyball at UW-Oshkosh according to head coach Brian Schaefer.
"We are excited to announce our first commitment in the class of 2017 for the Titans," said Schaefer. "Matt is a fierce competitor on the court and in the classroom. He impressed us with his overall volleyball knowledge and skill set at our summer camp and we can't wait to get him the gym. We have a lot of key players graduating in the spring of 2017 so it is important for the program to bring in a number of quality athletes to keep us among the elite teams in the country."
Aussem has competed for Milwaukee Volleyball Club under the direction of Jake Nowak and is one of the strongest club programs in the Midwest. "Playing with some of the most talented players in the state and with quality coaching from MVC has definitely enhanced Matt's game," added Schaefer. "We have MVC club players playing for our program and we are pleased to continue that tradition."
Aussem played high school volleyball for Nicolet High School under the tutelage of Brad Kuehl, who is also the MVC club co-director. In a Knights uniform, Aussem was named North Shore Conference first team his junior and senior year. He was also named to the Wisconsin Boys Volleyball Coaches Association All-State Honorable Mention team as a junior and to the All-State High Honorable Mention team in his final campaign.
Aussem also competes in track and field where he has lettered three times in the pole vault.
The son of Mary and Daniel Aussem, he has been on the Dean's List every semester of high school and will pursue nursing at UW-Oshkosh.
"UW-Oshkosh is a place that I can get a quality education and continue playing the sport I love at a high level." said Aussem.
"It is no secret that UW-Oshkosh has a fantastic nursing program," stated Schaefer. "As a program we strive in helping our players balance their studies and volleyball and I think that also helped Matt in making his decision."
UW-Oshkosh has won ten national titles, including six at the highest level of collegiate club volleyball. The Titans are the three-time defending National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division I national champions.
