UW-Oshkosh's Hudson to Tryout for US National Pan Am Games (5-9-16)
Travis Hudson, a 6-6 setter on the UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team will travel to California to tryout for the US National Pan Am team this week announced head coach Brian Schaefer.
Hudson, the reigning three-time National Collegiate Volleyball Federation most valuable player is the only collegiate club player competing in the tryouts. Hudson led the Titans to NCVF Division I titles in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and will return next season as the team tries to capture their fourth straight national championship.
Hudson will hit the gym on Tuesday, May 10th with morning workouts and practice in the afternoon. The tryout will conclude on Wednesday, May 18th with 14 spots up for grabs. If selected, Hudson and the team will depart for Culican, Mexico to compete from May 21st-26th.
"I have been asked multiple times by coaches, former players and random people how did you get him to come to UW-Oshkosh," said Schaefer. "I usually respond by saying he wasn't that good when he got here. All jokes aside, this chance he has earned has come about because of his dedication in the classroom, the weight room and in practice. Most people only see one side of Travis and that is when he is on the court. I am also lucky to get to see him as a person that cares deeply about his teammates, his coaches and the volleyball program at UW-Oshkosh."
Coaching the team is two-time Olympic coach and 2008 gold medal winner Ron Larsen. Assisting Larsen are West Valley College head coach Armen Zakarian and 2008 Olympic Gold medalist and current Pepperdine University assistant coach Sean Rooney.
"I'm taking a huge step forward in my volleyball career", said Hudson. "I can only hope things go well and show them what a guy from a club program can do on the national level. I would like to thank my professors, my coaches Brian Schaefer and Tim Weis and UW-Oshkosh for giving me this opportunity."
