UW-Oshkosh III Finished Second in WVC Regular Season (4-2-16)
The UW-Oshkosh III men's volleyball team claimed its first Wisconsin Volleyball Conference regular season runner-up finish in team history by going 4-0 during the first part of the WVC State Championship on Friday and Saturday (April 1-2) in Milwaukee.
The Titans (17-6 / 12-2 WVC) beat Concordia University Wisconsin 25-10, 25-12, UW-Whitewater II 25-18, 25-19, Marquette University II 25-22, 25-15 and upset conference regular season champion UW-Oshkosh II 19-25, 25-19, 15-10 to take the second seed heading into the playoffs. UW-Oshkosh II is currently ranked #2 in the latest National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division III poll.
In the win over UW-Whitewater II, Mike Skora (Fr. - Salem) led the Titans with six kills, Matt Pedersen (Fr. - Muskego) added 14 assists and Alex Basting (Fr. - Franklin) had five service aces. Joe Kuchler (Jr. - Muskego) finished with five digs and Sam Nelson (Fr. - Luck) had five kills.
Skora led UW-Oshkosh III with nine kills and three service aces in its victory over Marquette University II. Pedersen provided 21 assists and Kuchler scooped up eight digs.
Skora once again led the Titans in its regular season finale against UW-Oshkosh III with 10 kills. Pedersen passed out 21 assists, Basting had six kills and three blocks and Nelson stopped six attacks.
"This team keeps turning heads," said head coach Kurt Breier. "They have talent, heart and team chemistry. They play like they have nothing to lose and it keeps resulting in wins on the court."
