Landgraf Named WVC Division II Most Valuable Player (4-4-16)
Adam Landgraf (Sr. - Kenosha) led UW-Oshkosh II to its 14th straight Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Division II regular season title and was awarded the conference most valuable player award announced on Saturday (April 2nd) as part of the WVC State Championship weekend.
UW-Oshkosh II (32-6 / 13-1 WVC) finished the conference slate with a 13-1 record. Landgraf led the team from the setter's position and also topped the WVC in assists per set. He was previously named WVC Division II First-Team All-Conference in 2013 and 2015.
"Adam has done a wonderful job in both a setter and captain's role this season." said head coach Will Brydon. "His ability to isolate our hitters is key for our success and he works hard on his game in practice. Many times a setter gets unnoticed as hitters get a lot of the praise on the court. His award is a testament on where the other teams in the conference view his ability to lead our squad."
Alex Harty (Jr. - Racine) won his first WVC Division II Libero of the Year award as well as being selected First-Team All-Conference for the second time. Previously, Harty was named to the team in 2014 as a setter before moving to the libero position this season.
"Harty has all the skills to make a great libero." said Brydon. "He can pass, play great defense and hustles all the time. You can really tell he enjoys he role on the team and fights for every point."
Named First Team All-Conference for the first time were left side hitter Tony Mack (Jr. - Muskego) and middle blocker Michael Starzec (Sr. - Buffalo Grove, Ill.). Mack also led the conference with a .430 hitting percentage.
"Both Mike and Tony are hard to stop on the offensive side," added Brydon. "Mike is a big presence at the net and for Tony to lead the entire conference in hitting percentage in his position is pretty incredible. Both are tremendous teammates and possess great volleyball skills."
Named to the WVC Division II honorable mention team were right side hitter Mitch Lahmann (Sr. - Wauwatosa) and middle blocker Braeden Melton (Sr. - Beloit). Previously Lahmann was named First Team All-Conference in 2012 and 2014 and Melton was mentioned on the honorable mention team in 2014 and 2015.
"Our team only goes as far as Mitch and Braeden take us," state Brydon. "They do all the little things that make us complete and hard to stop offensively because we have so many weapons."
"Winning every WVC Division II regular season conference championship since the division was created in 2002 is a tradition driven accomplishment," said program head coach Brian Schaefer. "Our ability to always remain consistent over time is a great achievement for our players as well as our coaches. It is a pretty incredible streak the Titans have going and we continue to challenge each other in the gym to remain at that elite status."
