UW-Oshkosh Wins Eighth Straight WVC Regular Season Championship (4-2-16)
The UW-Oshkosh (44-4 / 16-0 WVC) men's volleyball team won its eighth straight Wisconsin Volleyball Conference regular season title by winning four matches this past weekend as part of the WVC State Championship on Friday and Saturday (April 1-2) in Milwaukee.
The Titans finished the season 16-0 in the WVC and only lost three sets during the conference slate. On Friday UW-Oshkosh beat UW-La Crosse 25-16, 25-18, UW-Stout 25-10, 25-6 and Winona State University 25-14, 25-14 and on Saturday defeated UW-Eau Claire 24-26, 25-17, 15-9.
Against the Eagles the Titans had 25 kills led by Eaven Mason (Fr. - Milwaukee) who slammed down six kills on seven attempts. Alec Redlich (Sr. - Wauwatosa) also had six kills and Allen Grunert (Jr. - Muskego) added five put aways. Travis Hudson (Sr. - Wauwatosa) dished out 18 assists and tallied five blocks, Tyler Range had three service aces and three blocks and Grunert added two service aces. Mike Wamboldt (Jr. - Kenosha) led the team with five digs.
UW-Oshkosh hit .643 as a team in the rout of UW-Stout. Redlich led the team with seven kills in nine attempts and added four service aces. Sammy Pedersen (Jr. - Muskego) provided six digs and two service aces, and Tyler Range (Sr. - Kenosha) had five kills and two blocks. Wesley Morioka (Sr. - Chicago, Ill.) had 13 assists and Devin Hudson (Fr. - Wauwatosa), in his first action due to injury in six weeks had three kills.
Morioka again took over setting duties and had 20 assists in leading the Titans to a .555 hitting percentage against Winona State University. Range had seven kills, Redlich had six and Grunert and Pedersen each had five. Sam Moua (Jr. - Appleton) led the team with five digs and Morioka and Redlich each had two service aces.
In their final win against the Blugolds Travis Hudson had 33 assists and seven digs. Range had eight kills and six blocks and Grunert added seven kills and four stuffs. Pedersen added six kills and seven digs and Redlich added two service aces and six kills.
