UW-Oshkosh III Splits Matches at WVC Play Date (2-25-16)
The UW-Oshkosh III men's volleyball team lost its first match in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Division II, but regrouped to finish 1-1 on the day on Sunday (Feb. 21) in Oshkosh.
UW-Oshkosh III could not getting anything going both offensively and defensively in a 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 loss to Carroll University. The Titans combined for 40 errors - 16 hitting errors, 10 serving errors, four receiving errors and 10 blocking errors in the match.
Alex Basting (Fr. - Franklin) and Mike Skora (Fr. - Salem) each had nine kills, but no other UW-Oshkosh player had more than four put aways. Joe Kuchler (Jr. - Muskego) led the team with nine digs and Matt Pedersen (Fr. - Muskego) had 24 assists, four digs and three blocks.
The Titans regrouped against UW-Whitewater II in a 25-18, 25-18, 25-23 sweep of the Warhawks. Basting led UW-Oshkosh with 13 kills and four blocks. Pedersen piled up 22 assists and four digs, Kuchler had eight digs and David Edelmann (So.- Belleville, Ill.) had seven digs.
Joe Lesko (Sr. - Brookfield) provided four kills and three service aces, Tony D'Acquisto (Fr. - Franklin) chalked up seven kill and two blocks and Skora slammed down 11 kills, while tacking on three service aces and four digs. Sam Nelson (Fr. - Luck) led the team with six blocks and Basting had four blocks, including the Titans' only solo stuff.
"We are a very good team, but sometimes our youth leads to inconsistency," said head coach Kurt Breier. "We need to do a better job of eliminating so many unforced errors so that we can put ourselves in a position to win the close matches."
