UW-Oshkosh III Gets by UW-Whitewater II (2-15-16)
The UW-Oshkosh III men's volleyball team let the third set slip away, but recovered nicely in a 25-19, 25-17, 25-27, 25-18 non-conference win over UW-Whitewater II on Tuesday (February 16) in Oshkosh.
Alex Basting (Fr. - Franklin) led the team with 12 kills and four service aces, while adding two solo blocks. Tony D'Acquisto (Fr. - Franklin) provided 11 kills, four digs and four blocks and Joe Kuchler (Jr. - Muskego) scooped up 10 digs. Joey Mack (Fr. - Muskego) had a nice match coming off the bench with six kills and nine digs and Andrew Shea (Jr. - Brookfield) tallied six kills and four blocks. Sam Nelson (Fr. - Luck) continued to be a big force at the net with six blocks, including three solo stuffs and Matt Pedersen (Fr. - Muskego) distributed 42 assists and had six digs and two blocks.
UW-Oshkosh finished the evening with 51 kills on a .266 hitting percentage. The Titans also piled up 45 assists, 10 service aces, 44 digs and 14 blocks, including nine solo stuffs. The gold and black did a good job on the passing side recording only two receiving errors in the match.
"When we were in rhythm tonight we were hard to stop offensively," said head coach Kurt Breier. "If we can eliminate some of our out-of-system errors and rely on our defense and block we are going to be a hard team to beat. Joey Mack played very well off the bench both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball and Tony D'Acquisto and Matt Pedersen were connecting well in the middle."
