Titans Remain Undefeated (2-15-16)
UW-Oshkosh continued to dominate the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference with a easy 25-9, 25-12, 25-22 victory over UW-Whitewater in a men's volleyball match on Tuesday (February 16) in Oshkosh. The Titans entered the match ranked #2 in the latest National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division I poll.
UW-Oshkosh (17-0 / 8-0 WVC) started off on fire on the offensive end with 16 kills in the first set against only two errors. The Titans continued the kill barrage with 12 put downs in 20 attempts without an error in the second set to take and early 2-0 lead.
UW-Whitewater did not give up however, keeping the third set close after three consecutive hitting errors by the Titans allowed the Warhawks to close to within 17-16. After two quick kills by Allen Grunert (Jr. - Muskego) gave the Titans a 19-16 advantage, UW-Oshkosh received a service ace by Alec Redlich (Sr. - Wauwatosa) to give them a four point lead and kept UW-Whitewater at bay for the three point win.
Coming off of a 17-kill performance against UW-Stout on Saturday, Grunert finished the night with 14 kills, including six in the third set. He added a service ace and one solo block. Travis Hudson (Sr. - Wauwatosa) dished out 36 assists and added four digs and two blocks and Tyler Range (Sr. - Kenosha) had seven kills on nine attempts and three blocks.
Eaven Mason (Fr. - Milwaukee) slammed down five kills and had three blocks, Redlich finished with nine kills and a match high five service aces and Sam Moua (Jr. - Appleton) had six digs. Wesley Morioka (Sr. - Chicago, Ill.) ended the contest with two service aces.
UW-Oshkosh finished with 44 kills on a .529 hitting percentage against a very strong UW-Whitewater defense. The Titans added 38 assists, ten service aces, 22 digs and 7.5 blocks. UW-Oshkosh only had six missed serves and two receiving errors in the match.
"I really liked how focused we were tonight," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "We could have looked ahead to the Midwest Ten Conference Championship this weekend in Illinois, but we were very steady tonight."
