UW-Oshkosh III Plays Tough at UW-Oshkosh Invitational (1-31-16)
Although the UW-Oshkosh III team finished 1-3 at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational, the Titans hung tough against three Division I teams, including going to a deciding third set two times on Saturday (January 30) in Oshkosh.
The Titans finished second in the initial pool by beating Michigan Tech University 25-21, 25-21 and losing to UW-Milwaukee 25-20, 25-17. The Panthers are currently ranked #5 in the latest National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division I poll.
In the win over the Huskies Andrew Shea (Jr. - Brookfield) led the Titans with seven kills and Matt Pedersen (Fr. - Muskego) dished out 14 assists. Michael Skora (Fr. - Salem) tallied four kills and two service aces, Joe Kuchler (Jr. - Muskego) led the team with five digs and Sam Nelson (Fr. - Luck) led the team with three solo blocks.
In their second match of the first pool the Titans were led by Kuchler with nine digs. Alex Basting (Fr. - Franklin) and Skora led UW-Oshkosh with four kills although hitting errors plagued the Titans as they had nine miscues.
In the second pool of the day, UW-Oshkosh III almost pulled off a major upset falling to #9 ranked University of Wisconsin 22-25, 25-14, 20-18. Basting came up big recording nine kills and three solo blocks. Shea provided five kills and Kuchler had seven digs. Pedersen led the offense with 18 assists and five digs and Tony D'Acquisto (Fr. - Franklin) recorded two solo blocks.
In their last match of the tournament the Titans once again won the first game, but then lost the next two sets to Northwestern University in a 24-26, 25-21, 15-8 defeat to finish sixth.
Shea led the team with eight kills, Joey Mack (Fr. - Muskego) added seven kills, D'Acquisto five and K.J. Hamilton (So. - Plainfield, Ill.) and Skora each had four. Kuchler led the team with eight digs and Pedersen dished out 29 assists and had two blocks and three digs.
