Four Players Named to Division I All-American Team (4-9-13)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team had four players named to the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division I All-America team announced head coach Brian Schaefer. Dan Ruys (Gr. - Kimberly) and Bill Meidenbauer (Sr. - Wauwatosa) were both named to the first team and Jake Ahnert (So. - Burlington) and Nick Mueller (Sr. - Kenosha) were named to the honorable mention team. Meidenbauer, a 6-4 left side hitter leaves the Titans program with his fourth All-American award after being named second team in 2009 and first team in 2011 and 2012. Meidenbauer was named the 2013 Wisconsin Volleyball Conference most valuable player and to the Midwest Ten Conference first team squad earlier this season. Meidenbauer paced the Titans this season with 456 kills, 101 blocks, 132 digs and 87 service aces. Ruys, a 6-4 middle blocker finishes his career with his second All-American prize after gaining first team honors in 2011. He was named to the WVC and Midwest Ten Conference first team this season. Ruys finished the season with 298 kills and 178 blocks. Mueller, a 6-0 left side hitter produced his first Division I All-American award after previously being named the NCVF Division III most valuable player in 2010 after leading the Titans to the national title. Mueller was named All-WVC first team and Midwest Ten Conference second team this season. In his last campaign, Mueller racked up 403 kills, 121 digs and 56 service aces. Ahnert, a 6-3 middle blocker came on strong to end the season to claim the honor. He contributed 256 kills and 125 blocks on the season and was especially productive after recovering from an ankle injury that sidelined him for two weeks during the year. UW-Oshkosh (55-4) finished the season taking third at the NCVF Division I national championship. The Titans also claimed both the Midwest Ten Conference regular season and tournament championships, Wisconsin Volleyball Conference regular season title and the Hoosier-Illini Classic crown. With these four honorees, and with Andrew Nett (Sr. - Fond du Lac) being named to the NCVF Division III All-American honorable mention team, Schaefer has now coached 31 All-American for a total of 45 awards. "Many people thought that we would have a down year in 2013 due to losing Tyler Boddy, Zach Johnson, Vincent Odorizzi and Andrew Schinner from last year's team," added Schaefer. "Every year is a challenge to stay among the nation's elite and these four individuals were the cornerstone on why we remained at that level."
