Oshkosh II Defeats Oshkosh III for Perfect WVC Season (3-27-13)
The UW-Oshkosh II men's volleyball team won its 11th straight Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Division II regular season title with a 25-19, 25-14, 25-13 victory over UW-Oshkosh III on Tuesday (March 26) in Kolf Sports Center.
UW-Oshkosh II claimed the WVC title with an unblemished 8-0 record; while UW-Oshkosh III fell to 6-2 on the year in conference.
The first set was close throughout until a three point run with UW-Oshkosh II leading at 19-18 put the set out of reach. Steve Brunelli (Sr. - Greenfield) had five kills and Erik Harke (Jr. - Kimberly) added four in the stanza.
UW-Oshkosh II relied on tough serving to close out the match as they recorded four service aces in set two and six in set three to finish the contest.
Brunelli finished with 13 kills, four service aces and four blocks in his last regular season home match. Tyler Range (Fr. - Kenosha) added six kills and three blocks and Adam Landgraf (Fr. - Kenosha) dished out 23 assists and amassed four service aces for UW-Oshkosh II. Tyler Wiedenhoeft (So. - Mequon) scooped up seven digs and Mitch Lahmann (So. - Wauwatosa) added four digs for the victors.
UW-Oshkosh III was led by Jordan Berget (Sr. - New Richmond) with eight digs and two service aces. Chris Flood (Fr. - Appleton) had 13 assists and four kills and Joe Lesko (Fr. - Brookfield) finished with seven kills and six digs.
Both teams look to bring home the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Division II state championship this weekend. The tournament will be hosted by UW-Oshkosh with pool play starting on Friday (March 29) at 4:00 p.m. and the WVC Division II championship match slated for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday (March 30). Admission is free the event.
