UW-Oshkosh Improves to 8-0 in the WVC; All in Three Set Sweeps (2-26-13)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team stayed hot after its strong weekend by posting a 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 win over UW-Whitewater in a Wisconsin Volleyball Conference match-up on Tuesday (Feb. 26) in Oshkosh.
After winning the Hoosier-Illini Classic on Sunday, UW-Oshkosh (26-1; 8-0 WVC) avoided a let-down against second place UW-Whitewater and to take a four match advantage in the league.
The first set was close as the Warhawks defense kept them in the match. Tied at 13-13, the Titans took over to finish the set with a 12-5 run. Bill Meidenbauer (Sr. - Waukesha) had five kills in the stanza.
The Titans collected 10 team digs in the second set on the way to its five point victory. The Warhawks committed eight hitting errors in the third set as the Titans closed out the victory with its 24th straight set win this year in conference.
Meidenbauer led the team with 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks. Nick Mueller (Sr. - Waukesha) added eight kills and Dan Ruys (Gr. - Kimberly) provided six kills and two blocks. Travis Hudson (Fr. - Wauwatosa) dished out 33 assists and had six digs and Jake Ahnert (So. - Burlington) gathered five kills and two blocks.
Shane Heyrman (So. - Green Bay) tallied three blocks, including two solo stuffs and Wesley Morioka (Fr. - Chicago, Ill.) counted seven digs.
UW-Oshkosh entered the match as the number one team in the nation according to the latest National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division I poll.
"As expected we came out a little slow to start the match," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "Our team continually proves that they can turn it on when needed and that happened tonight after we reached 15 points in the first set."
