UW-Oshkosh Maintains Unblemished Streak in WVC (2-22-13)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team continued their unbeaten streak in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference by sweeping Lakeland College, 26-24, 25-20, 25-10 on Thursday (Feb. 21) in Sheboygan. UW-Oshkosh (17-1; 7-0 WVC) won its 21st straight set in the WVC and took a three match lead in the conference standings on its quest for its third straight regular season title. The Titans have now won 12 straight overall matches. The Titans' offense and serving struggled on the night as the team only hit .219 on 28 kills and piled up 16 serving errors. UW-Oshkosh relied on their blocking, holding the Muskies to a negative .097 hitting percentage by collecting 12.5 blocks on the night. Bill Meidenbauer (Sr. - Waukesha) led the Titans with 13 kills on a .556 hitting percentage, while adding two service aces and two blocks. Travis Hudson (Fr. - Wauwatosa) dished out 19 assists and added five blocks, including two solo stuffs. Dan Ruys (Gr. - Kimberly) continued his tear at the net by having a match high seven blocks, Jordan Mattingly (Sr. - Kaukauna) had a match best eight digs and Nick Mueller (Sr. - Kenosha) added seven kills. Wesley Morioka (Fr. - Chicago, Ill.) came off the bench to record four service aces. UW-Oshkosh did a good job neutralizing the dynamic Lakeland College (8-7; 6-4) outside hitting duo of Brett Kazmarek and Alec Redlich. The Titans were able to limit Kazmarek to eight kills on a .000 hitting percentage and Redlich to three kills on a negative .500 hitting percentage. Last season Redlich led the WVC in kills per set.
