UW-Oshkosh Remains Perfect in WVC Action (2-13-13)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team avoided losing its first set of the season in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference by coming back in set three and recorded a 25-13, 25-18, 26-24 victory over Marquette University on Tuesday (Feb. 12) in Oshkosh. UW-Oshkosh (16-1; 6-0 WVC) dominated set one by picking up 11 total digs and getting three kills each from Travis Hudson (Fr. - Wauwatosa), Bill Meidenbauer (Sr. - Waukesha) and Dan Ruys (Gr. - Kimberly). The Titans also got three blocks by Ruys and three digs by Jordan Mattingly (Sr. - Kaukauna). The Titans gave over half of the Golden Eagles points by missing eight serves in the stanza. In set two the Titans were led by Nick Mueller (Sr. - Kenosha) who recorded six kills and Hudson who dished out 10 assists. The closing set was close until the Titans hitting went south allowing the Golden Eagles to bolt out to an 18-12 advantage. UW-Oshkosh went on a 10-4 run to close to within 23-22 before a side out by Marquette University. Facing two set points Meidenbauer came up big with a kill and then a service ace to knot the score at 24-24. The Titans were added by two hitting errors by the Golden Eagles to end the contest. The outside hitting duo of Meidenbauer and Mueller each had five kills in the set, following closely by Ruys with four put downs. Mattingly had six digs and in his first varsity action in his career Tyler Range (Fr. - Kenosha) had two blocks. UW-Oshkosh, who has not lost in the WVC since a mid-season defeat to UW-La Crosse in 2011 was paced by the 11 kills by Mueller. Meidenbauer finished with 10 kills and three service aces and Hudson distributed the ball to a tune of 31 assists. Mattingly had 11 digs and Ruys had eight kills and three blocks. The Titans now own a 11-match winning streak on the season.
