UW-Oshkosh II Takes Lead in WVC Division II (2-13-13)
The UW-Oshkosh II men's volleyball team defeated Marquette University II in a battle of Wisconsin Volleyball Conference undefeated teams on Tuesday (Feb. 12) in Oshkosh. Both teams entered the match 4-0 in the WVC Division II conference standings. UW-Oshkosh II (10-1; 5-0 WVC) won in set scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-21. The Titans started off strong in the first set behind the five kills of reigning WVC Division II most valuable player Steve Brunelli (Sr. - Greenfield) and the three kills and three service aces of Tyler Range (Fr. - Kenosha). Adam Landgraf (Fr. - Kenosha) provided 12 assists and Tyler Wiedenhoeft (So. - Mequon) added two service aces. Brunelli once again added offensive fire power in set two with five kills; while adding two service aces. Erik Harke (Jr. - Kimberly) totaled two service aces and Andrew Nett (Sr. - Fond du Lac) had two blocks, including one solo stuff at the net. UW-Oshkosh II bolted to a 15-11lead in set three before the Golden Eagles took a 16-15 advantage after four hitting errors by the Titans. UW-Oshkosh II responded with a 5-1 run to inch ahead 20-17 before settling for the four point win and the three set sweep. Harke again piled up two service aces for the second consecutive set and Nett led the team with five kills. With the victory UW-Oshkosh II takes the upper hand in the conference as they seek their 11th straight WVC Division II regular season conference title. Brunelli led the hosts with 11 kills and Landgraf paced the offense with 32 assists. Harke topped the team with five service aces and Nett provided eight kills and Range three blocks. In five conference matches the Titans have only dropped one set.
