UW-Oshkosh Goes 5-0 at Midwest Ten Play Date (2-3-13)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team survived two close matches and swept three other opponents to go 5-0 at the Midwest Ten Play Date held on Saturday (Feb. 2) in Milwaukee.

UW-Oshkosh (15-1; 5-0 MW10) throttled Ball State University, 25-10, 25-12 to open conference play. The Titans only had two hitting errors in the match and hit an astonishing .692 in the romp. Nick Mueller (Sr. - Kenosha) led the team with nine kills on 11 attempts.

Dan Ruys (Gr. - Kimberly) had seven kills on eight attempts, Jake Ahnert (So. - Burlington) six kills on seven attempts and Shane Heyrman (So. - Green Bay) five kills on seven attempts. All four did not have a hitting error in the match.

Travis Hudson (Fr. - Wauwatosa) led the team with 21 assists, seven digs and three service aces. Jordan Mattingly (Sr. - Kaukauna) had four digs and Ahnert topped the team with four blocks, while Ruys added three stuffs.

Despite beating Lakeland College in three straight sets earlier in the week, the Titans were pushed to a deciding stanza in a 25-19, 18-25, 15-13 victory over the Muskies. UW-Oshkosh inched out to a 14-10 advantage in the third set before Lakeland College closed to within 14-13. The match ended on a kill by Ruys on a perfect set from Hudson.

Mueller led the team with eight kills and Bill Meidenbauer (Sr. - Waukesha) and Ruys ended up with seven put aways. Hudson paced the Titans with 23 assists and six service aces. Mattingly picked up seven digs and Ahnert led UW-Oshkosh with three blocks.

UW-Oshkosh again survived a three-set contest after winning the first set and losing the second in a 25-19, 20-25, 15-12 decision over UW-Milwaukee. The Titans prevailed despite hitting .279 in the match and only picking up six digs in the outing.

Meidenbauer led the Titans with six kills and Mueller and Ruys each have five in the match. Hudson ran the offense with 22 assists and also had two service aces. Ahnert had two solo blocks and Mattingly had four digs.

After struggling on offense against the Panthers the Titans set a team record by hitting .813 against Iowa State University in a 25-9, 25-15 triumph over Iowa State University. UW-Oshkosh achieved the record by slamming down 27 kills on 32 attempts while committing only one hitting error.

Ruys was a perfect seven for seven in kills, Hudson followed with six kills on six attempts and Heyrman and Mueller each had four kills. Mueller provided five digs and two service aces, Hudson tallied 17 assists, three digs and two service aces and Ahnert, Meidenbauer and Ruys each had three blocks. Bob Hall (Sr. - Appleton), Hudson and Meidenbauer joined Mueller with two service aces.

UW-Oshkosh finished up their day with a 25-15, 25-17 win over rival Northern Illinois University. Meidenbauer, Mueller and Ruys each finished with five kills as Hudson dished out 17 assists. Hudson added four service aces and Ahnert dominated the net with five blocks, including two solo blocks. Wesley Morioka (Fr. - Chicago, Ill.) and Hall each picked up three digs each.

For the tournament Ruys hit a mind-numbing .833 with 31 kills on 36 attempts and had 11 blocks. Mueller equaled Ruys with 31 kills on a .471 hitting percentage and added 13 digs. Hudson dished out 108 assists and led the Titans with 17 service aces for a 1.42 per set service ace average. Ahnert led the Titans with 17 blocks, including six solo stuffs and hit .393 on 17 kills. Meidenbauer finished with 19 kills and Mattingly 15 digs.
