UW-Oshkosh Sweeps Three Conference Opponents (1-27-13)
The UW-Oshkosh (9-1; 4-0 WVC) men's volleyball team sweep all three of its opponents at the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference play date on Saturday (Jan. 26) in Sheboygan.
The Titans beat UW-Stevens Point 25-4, 25-13, 25-16, UW-Stout 25-15, 25-17, 25-18 and UW-Platteville 25-13, 25-14, 25-15 to remain the only undefeated team in the WVC. In conference matches, all three set sweeps, the Titans have yet to allow 20 points in any set.
UW-Oshkosh bolted to an 18-0 lead in the first set and finished with 11 kills in only 13 attempts in the first stanza against the Pointers. Shane Heyrman (So. - Green Bay) had nine kills on ten attempts and Dan Ruys (Gr. - Kimberly) slammed down seven kills on eight attempts to lead the Titans.
Travis Hudson (Fr. - Wauwatosa) added 18 assists, three service aces and three digs to top the Titans in all three categories. Bob Hall (Sr. - Appleton) added six kills and three blocks, Ruys stacked up six blocks and Heyrman piled up three blocks.
Bill Meidenbauer (Sr. - Wauwatosa) led the Titans will nine kills, four blocks and two service aces in the win over UW-Stout. Ruys had seven kills and Heyrman and Jake Ahnert (So. - Burlington) each had six kills as the Titans had 39 total kills in the match.
Jordan Mattingly (Sr. - Kaukauna) piled up 13 digs and Wesley Morioka (Fr. - Chicago) totaled six digs and three blocks. Ruys added three blocks and Hall and Hudson each had four digs. Hall and Hudson split setting duties and dished out 15 and 12 assists, respectively.
Meidenbauer led UW-Oshkosh with 13 kills and Ahnert amassed 10 kills in 13 errorless attempts against the Pioneers. Hudson handed off 34 assists, Mattingly scooped up seven digs and Ahnert had five blocks.
UW-Oshkosh returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 31) against Lakeland College at 7:00 p.m. The match will be the Titans first home contest.
