Picchietti and Starzec Join the Titans (5-25-12)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team put the finishing touches on its 2012-2013 recruiting class when Sam Picchietti and Michael Starzec announced they will be attending the University in the fall. The duo finalizes an outstanding list of incoming student-athletes to the Titans program.

Picchietti hails from Westosha Central High School where he helped the Falcons to consecutive third place finishes at the WIAA state tournament in 2010 and 2011. Voted team most versatile player his senior campaign, Picchietti helped head coach Wayne Schultz win Southern Lakes Conference championships in 2009 and 2010.

The 6-2 right side hitter played for South Port Volleyball Club under the direction of Kyle Klaver and for Club W under the tutelage of Pat Goldsmith. Sam is the son of Scott and Kima Picchietti and will study accounting at UW-Oshkosh.

"I choose UW-Oshkosh because it is very well known for a great business program," said Picchietti. "I am also excited to play volleyball for UW-Oshkosh and honored to be part of such a successful program."

Starzec hails from tradition rich Buffalo Grove High School in Illinois where he was named first team all-conference in the Mid-Suburban League. A three-time varsity letter winner for the Bison, Starzec was the team captain this season.

The 6-7 middle blocker is a member of the Buffalo Grove High School National Honor Society, National Technical Society and was recently named the Business Student of the Year. He will be an eight time semester honor roll recipient and plans on studying accounting at UW-Oshkosh. He is the son of Mike and April Starzec.

"I choose UW-Oshkosh because of their commitment to putting a championship caliber team on the court year after year," said Starzec.

"After an outstanding 2012 season we are looking forward to relying on young talent to lead us in 2013 after losing five key seniors," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "Sam and Michael are both outstanding students and their potential on the volleyball court is immeasurable. I can't wait to see what all the incoming freshmen will bring to our program."

Picchietti and Starzec will join Alonso Amador (Beloit Memorial), Jake Galaszewski (Franklin), Chris Flood (Appleton East), Travis Hudson (Wauwatosa West), Andrew Fricke (Kenosha Tremper), Danny Kingstad (Franklin), Adam Landgraf (Kenosha Tremper), Joseph Lesko (Brookfield Central), Braeden Melton (Beloit Memorial), Tyler Range (Kenosha Tremper), Matthew Schultz (Germantown), Brock Van Deurzen (Kimberly) and Joe Woehling (Milton) in a Titans uniform next season.

"We have brought in a big class in hopes of fielding a third team again next season," added Schaefer. "Our number one priority was bringing in setters and defensive players and we accomplished that goal. Add on a couple of good outside hitters and this group will be fun to watch. For whatever reason we have always been a very strong middle blocking team as well and it looks like that will be the case again with guys like Danny, Braeden, Tyler and Michael."

UW-Oshkosh captured its sixth national title in April with the Titans' second team (Division II) won the NCVF Division III national title. The Titans' first team (Division I) took third place at the NCVF Division I national championship.
