Oshkosh Wins National Championship Rematch in First Midwest Ten Play Date (2-6-12)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team, the number one ranked team in the National Collegiate Volleyball Association, only lost one set on its way to a 6-0 record at the Midwest Ten Conference play date on Saturday (February 4) in Milwaukee.

UW-Oshkosh (10-0) opened up play by sweeping UW-Milwaukee 25-18, 25-19, Lakeland College 25-23, 25-19 and Illinois State University 25-13, 26-24. The Titans then inched by the University of Notre Dame 25-19, 20-25, 15-13 before handling Marquette University 25-11, 25-23 and Iowa State University 25-18, 25-19.

UW-Oshkosh was led by Tyler Boddy (Sr. - New Ulm, Minn.), the reigning Midwest Ten Conference Player of the Year, with a team high eight kills against the Panthers. Boddy added four digs.

Bill Meidenbauer (Sr. - Waukesha), a second-team all-Midwest Ten Conference pick in 2010, and Nick Mueller (Jr. - Kenosha) added six kills and Zach Johnson (Jr. - Mequon) and Vince Odorizzi (Sr. - Kenosha) each had three kills on three attempts. Andrew Schinner (Sr. - Mequon) dished out 26 assists and Jordan Mattingly (Sr. - Kaukauna) had five digs.

Trailing 18-12 against the Muskies, Mattingly rattled off eight straight points to help the Titans to a 20-18 advantage. After the close call in the first set, UW-Oshkosh piled up 18 kills on only one error in the second stanza to take the match.

Jake Ahnert (Fr. - Burlington) led the Titans with four blocks and classmate Shane Heyrman (Fr. - Green Bay) collected seven kills. Boddy also had seven kills and added two blocks and Bob Hall (Jr. - Appleton) led the offense with 21 assists and fielded three blocks.

After dominating the first set against the Red Birds by hitting .786 as a team, the Titans had to battle back from a 24-20 deficit to squeak out the match. Meidenbauer sealed the match with a service ace on match point after serving the previous four points. Johnson collected two blocks during the stretch and added another during set two. Odorizzi had four blocks without a kill attempt and Mattingly patrolled the back court with six digs.

Meindenbauer was a perfect six for six in kill attempts in the first set and Mueller finished four for four in the match. Boddy added six kills and Schinner had 22 assists.

In a rematch of the 2011 national championship contest, UW-Oshkosh again beat second ranked University of Notre Dame in three sets. After slamming down 16 kills in the first set and hitting .650, the Titans were limited to a .200 mark in set two. UW-Oshkosh inched out the win with all 15 points coming off kills in the deciding third set, including four by both Meidenbauer and Mueller.

Meidenbauer and Mueller finished with 10 kills each and Mattingly tallied six digs. Schinner piled up 31 assists and Boddy collected nine kills, six assists and two blocks. Johnson provided three blocks and two service aces and Meidenbauer, Odorizzi and Schinner each had two blocks.

Heyrman led the Titans against Golden Eagles with six kills and Ahnert had three blocks. Johnson amassed four service aces, four kills and two blocks and Hall had 20 assists.

In the win over the Cyclones Mueller had five kills and Heyrman, Matt Maciejewski (Sr. - Greenfield), Odorizzi and Dan Ruys (Sr. - Kimberly) had three kills. Heyrman finished with four blocks, Ruys, a first team Midwest Ten Conference performer last season with three and Hall with two as the Titans had seven blocks in the match. Hall dished out 19 assists in the win.
