UW-Oshkosh Inks Pair from Beloit (12-13-11)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team has learned that two players from Beloit Memorial High School will join the 2012-2013 squad announced head coach Brian Schaefer. Alonso Amador, a 6-0 setter and Braeden Melton, a 6-5 middle blocker have decided to continue their education and don a Titans' uniform. Amador and Melton become the seventh players, all from Wisconsin, that have committed to UW-Oshkosh for the 2012-2013 season. Both Amador and Melton played under the leadership of head coach Andre DeKok. The Purple Knights claimed the Big Eight conference championship in 2011, their first in school history. Amador was named second-team All-Big Eight Conference after leading Beloit Memorial High School in assists and service aces. He is the son of Maria and Adolfo Amador and will major in pre-veterinary science at UW-Oshkosh. "UW-Oshkosh has a very good learning environment as well as important programs," said Amador. "Besides the education aspects, there are also many opportunities to get involved in, such as clubs and sports." Melton continuously improved throughout high school after earning Rookie of the Year and having the most blocks on the team his sophomore campaign. His junior year he set the school record in total blocks and was named honorable mention All-Big Eight Conference. Melton had a break out year in 2011. He was his team's captain, first team All-Big Eight Conference and conference Player of the Year runner-up. He led the Purple Knights in blocks and hitting percentage and was named team most valuable player. Melton is the son of Trisha Rudisill and Jim Melton and is planning on pursuing advertising at UW-Oshkosh. "UW-Oshkosh will give me the best education, the best coaching and the best chance to become a national champion," said Melton when asked why he chose UW-Oshkosh. "Whenever you can add two hard-working players to your roster with tons of potential you are always happy," said Schaefer. "I see both Alonso and Braeden starting off on our Division II team and having a productive season. I know that they are both excited for the opportunity to play at UW-Oshkosh and we are glad they are in our program."
