UW-Oshkosh Racks Up WVC All-Conference Awards (4-5-11)
Benefiting from winning the WVC regular season conference title and well as the WVC state championship, the UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team won numerous WVC All-Conference awards announced after play concluded on Saturday (April 2) in Kolf Sports Center. Tyler Boddy (Sr. - New Ulm, Minn.), a right side hitter became the Titans sixth player in program history to be named the WVC most valuable player. Previously, Jim Boos (1997), Dave Boos (1998), Josh Wagner (2000), Andrew Sederberg (2005, 2006) and Nate Sederberg (2010) were given the top prize in the conference. Boddy had previously been an All-WVC first team selection in 2010, a WVC honorable mention honoree in 2008 and the WVC newcomer of the year in 2008. Dan Ruys (Sr. - Kimberly), a middle blocker enjoyed his second straight All-WVC first team award after leading the conference in both hitting percentage (.485) and blocks per set (1.24). Bill Meidenbauer (Jr. - Waukesha), a left side hitter claimed his first All-WVC first team mention after being named a WVC honorable mention choice last season. Rounding out the Titans All-WVC first team selections was Nick Mueller (So. - Pleasant Prairie), a left side hitter who led the WVC in aces per set (.80). Mueller previously was a WVC Division II first team honoree and the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Division III national player of the year in 2010. Andy Schinner (Sr. - Mequon), a setter and Zach Johnson (So. - Mequon), a middle blocker collected their first WVC honorable mention awards. Johnson was second in the WVC in hitting percentage (.475) and Schinner topped the conference in assists per set (10.76). "We had a dominating season in the WVC and it was recognized by the other coaches and team captains in the conference through their voting," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "We had an extremely deep team this year and I know many of our non-starters would be the best players on other teams. The players that won awards should be proud of their efforts, but when it is all said and done individual awards come down to how well the team does as a whole and I know the team believes this."
