UW-Oshkosh Wins Third Straight WVC Regular Season Title (3-31-11)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team won its third straight Wisconsin Volleyball Conference regular season title with a 25-20, 25-22, 25-16 sweep of Lakeland College on Wednesday (March 30) in Sheboygan. The win marks the third time the Titans have beaten the Muskies this season, all without dropping a set. Hitting errors plagued UW-Oshkosh (42-6 / 13-1 WVC) in the first two sets, keeping Lakeland College close. The Titans, ranked third in the latest NCVF Division I poll, committed six miscues in both sets before having only one in the deciding third frame. Tyler Boddy (Sr. - New Ulm, Minn.), Nick Mueller (So. - Kenosha) and Dan Ruys (Sr. - Kimberly) each had nine kills to pace the Titans. Zach Johnson (So. - Wauwatosa) added seven kills and Vince Odorizzi (Sr. - Pleasant Prairie) connected on all three of his attempts, all in the first set. Andy Schinner (Sr. - Mequon) had 35 assists, Jordan Mattingly (Sr. - Kaukauna), in his next found role as libero, piled up eight digs and Johnson, Bill Meidenbauer (Jr. - Waukesha) and Odorizzi each had three blocks. Johnson added two service aces and Boddy had four digs.
