Jake Ahnert Commits to Play for UW-Oshkosh (3-10-11)
Jake Ahnert, a 6-3 middle blocker from Burlington, Wisconsin has decided to continue his playing career for the UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team announced head coach Brian Schaefer. Ahnert's commitment to the Titans adds to an already impressive list of incoming freshmen ready to join the UW-Oshkosh squad next season.
"Jake is another incoming freshmen that will make an immediate impact in our program next season," said Schaefer. "He is strong, has awesome hops and wants to be in a setting where his abilities as a player will be challenged by his teammates. I know he can't wait to get started and his potential as a player is limitless."
Ahnert played for head coach Tim Gestland at Burlington High School where he was named first team All-Southeast Conference in 2010 and second team in 2009. He capped his high school career by being named the Racine County Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-state selection.
He currently is a member of the West Allis Lightning junior Olympic volleyball club under the direction of Dan Rogutich. He will be joining teammate Brandon Wagner, as well as fellow all-state performers Mitch Lahmann and Shane Heyrman in a Titans uniform in the fall. Ryan Hoffland, Sean Murphy and Tyler Wiedenhoeft have also decided to attend UW-Oshkosh and play on the men's volleyball team.
Ahnert is the son of Mike Ahnert and Sandy Schiller and intends on majoring in computer science.
When asked why he chose UW-Oshkosh Ahnert simply said, "I want to win, that is why I am going to UW-Oshkosh."
"I am excited that we are getting some of the best players in the state of Wisconsin to stay close to home," added Schaefer. "We have a few more making their decision and if we can get some of the guys that we are recruiting from other states in the Midwest to join our team this will easily be the best class of student-athletes yet."
