The Titans Take Down the Golden Eagles in Three Sets (2-18-11)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team controlled the tempo of each set in a 25-15, 25-20, 25-21 sweep over arch-rival Marquette University in a Wisconsin Volleyball Conference match-up on Thursday (Feb. 17) in Milwaukee. UW-Oshkosh (12-3 / 8-1 WVC) dominated the first set as Tyler Boddy (Sr. - New Ulm, Minn.) tallied five kills on all five of his attempts and Nick Mueller (So. - Kenosha) did the same on his three swings. Set two was close throughout as neither team held more than a two point cushion. With a slight 21-20 lead by UW-Oshkosh, Mueller served up an ace, Bill Meidenbauer (Jr. - Waukesha) and Zach Johnson (So. - Mequon) combined on a block and a slip by a Marquette University player bolted the Titans to a 24-20 advantage. UW-Oshkosh finished the set with a kill by Johnson. The Titans got two service aces by Meidenbauer and Boddy had four more kills as UW-Oshkosh put together the sweep. Boddy finished with a team-leading 12 kills. Bob Hall (So. - Appleton) dished out 36 assists and added six digs, Mueller ended the contest with three service aces and five kills and Johnson tallied 10 kills. Jordan Mattingly (Sr. - Kaukauna) produced six digs and Meidenbauer finished with six kills, two service aces and two blocks. The Titans concluded the match with a .441 hitting percentage, eight service aces, 25 digs and 41 kills. "This might be the most complete match of the year for us so far," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "We played with enthusiasm and, for the first time as a team. We have a lot to work on, but in playing hard the coaching staff can pinpoint those areas and we can fix them with hard work in practice."
