Oshkosh Sweeps Lakeland in First Home Match (2-15-11)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team won a close and exciting first set and then pulled away in sets two and three for a 30-28, 25-19, 25-17 victory over Lakeland College on Tuesday (Feb. 15) in Kolf Sports Center. Despite 22 kills in the first set, UW-Oshkosh (11-3 / 7-1 WVC) had to survive three set points before pulling out the victory after a Lakeland College hitting error and a kill by Nick Mueller (So. - Kenosha). The Titans struggled in the set with serving and passing, collecting eight service errors and four receiving errors, respectively. From there the Titans took control of the match, limiting themselves to four more service errors and only one receiving error in the final two sets. Bob Hall (So. - Appleton) and Andy Schinner (Sr. - Mequon) each piled up 20 assists to lead the team on offense. Tyler Boddy (Sr. - New Ulm, Minn.) totaled 11 kills, Mueller added nine kills and Zach Johnson (So. - Wauwatosa) had nine kills on only 13 attempts. Brian Fox (Sr. - Fond du Lac) finished with a team-leading seven digs, Dan Ruys (Sr. - Kimberly) finished with five blocks and Jordan Mattingly (Sr. - Kaukauna) had five digs. The Titans finished with 47 kills on a .417 hitting percentage. UW-Oshkosh also played well on the defensive side of the net finishing with 10 blocks, including three solo stuffs.
