UW-Oshkosh Inks First Minnesota Recruit (10-6-06)
Tyler Boddy, a 6-4 leftiside hitter from New Ulm, Minnesota has decided to play for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh men's volleyball team, according to head coach Brian Schaefer. Boddy becomes the Titans' first 2007-2008 committed student-athlete for the reigning NIRSA Division I national champions.

"I'm excited to have somebody of Tyler's ability to decide to attend UW-Oshkosh so early," said Schaefer. "He is the real deal. He is a great play, even better student and the type of player that every program wants on their roster."

Boddy becomes the first UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball player to hail from Minnesota. Although the state of Minnesota doesn't offer boys' volleyball in high school, Boddy plays for the Bloomington Jaguars, a junior olympic volleyball club that participated at the 2006 national tournament in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"Tyler comes from a very athletic volleyball family," added Schaefer. "His sister played for former UW-Oshkosh player Jim Boos at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and was a NCAA Division II All-American. Tyler found out about our summer camps from Jim and the rest is history."

Boddy also participates in high school basketball and baseball. He has been a varsity starter for the basketball team the last two seasons and was named team captain his junior year.

Boddy also is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and is the New Ulm High School senior class treasurer. He is the son of Jerry and Dee Boddy.

"Attending the UW-Oshkosh summer camp gave me an opportunity to visit the campus and meet the coaches," said Boddy. "Playing volleyball at a high level and getting a great college experience and education was what I was looking for in a college. I know UW-Oshkosh will give me all of those things."

"Tyler really flew under the radar due to the fact that Minnesota doesn't have boys volleyball," stated Schaefer. "He can really do it all - he is an excellent passer, hitter and setter. He is the type of player that will make an immediate impact on our team and will help us to maintain as one of the top teams in the NIRSA Division I ."

In 2006 the UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team captured the NIRSA Division I national championship and went 56-1 on the season. The Titans also finished second in 2005 and fifth in 2003 and 2004. The Titans Division II team also competed at the NIRSA national championship taking home a runner-up finish in the NIRSA Division III portion of the tournament. The Titans had seven NIRSA All-Americans last season.
