Eight UW-Oshkosh Players Earn 3.0 or Better (7-1-06)
Eight UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball players acheived a grade point average of a 3.0 or better during the 2006 spring semester announced head coach Brian Schaefer recently.

"For the most part we had a great semester," added Schaefer. "The guys really buckled down and acheived a high level of success during the semester. The spring semester is especially a tough one because of the long volleyball season which entails a large amount of traveling. As a program we focus on time management and it showed with the success we had in the classroom."

Highlighting the team's success were Tony Grobel (Fr. - Fond du Lac) with a 3.90, Mark Beck (Fr. - Kimberly) with a 3.67, Dave Pautz (Sr. - New Berlin) with a 3.67, Kurt Breier (Jr. - Kimberly) with a 3.50, Nathan Malewiski (Sr. - New Franken) with a 3.49, Brandon Kirkland (Sr. - Racine) with a 3.12, Chris Schinner (Fr. - Mequon) with a 3.10 and Trenton Hazen (So. - Racine) with a 3.00. Beck also added a 4.00 and Groh a 3.90 during the first semester of the school year.

"Maintaining a high level of success on the court and in the classroom is a goal of our program and I have no doubt it will continue next season," added Schaefer. "Among the eight student-athletes mentioned, three were All-Americans (Kirkland, Malewiski and Pautz) and all eight are returning to play next season."
