Dave Boos Enters the WVC Hall of Fame (4-9-06)
Dave Boos officially entered the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Hall of Fame this past weekend at the WVC Championships held at Marquette University on Saturday, April 8. Dave became the 5th Oshkosh player to be honored by the WVC behind Mike Radtke, Josh Wagner, Paul Hammen and his older brother, Jim Boos.
Dave Boos played volleyball at UW-Oshkosh from 1995-1999 capturing four All-WVC First-Team selections and was named the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Most Valuable Player in 1998.
As UW-Oshkosh became a household name on the collegiate club scene, Dave was behind it every step of the way. He had the ability to take athletic newcomers to the game and turn them into volleyball players. As he enters the WVC Hall of Fame he joins two other former Titan players that he coached that have already been inducted, neither of which played volleyball in high school.
In 1996 UW-Oshkosh won the NIRSA Division II national championship, the first title for any team in the conference on the national stage. After that crowning achievement the Titans elevated their game to the Division I level where they finished 17th in 1997, fifth in 1998 and 29th in 1999.
In 1999, UW-Oshkosh captured its unprecedented fourth straight WVC state championship as Dave ended his five year reign as the Titans starting setter. He graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a degree in biology and ended his career as the Titans all-time leader is assists and games played.
Serving as a player-coach during his time at UW-Oshkosh, he was also the Titans assistant women's coach from 1995-1998. After graduating he earned a job as the women's assistant coach at Indiana University from 1999-2001 and then at the University of Minnesota starting in 2002.
Helping the Gophers reach the NCAA Division I Final Four in 2003 and the title match in 2004, he was elevated to associate head coach in 2004 and currently holds that position.
Besides establishing the Titans into a powerhouse he also was instrumental in making the WVC into one of the most competitive conferences in the country. He served on the WVC advisory board from 1997-1999 and helped three teams from the WVC join the Midwest Ten Conference and the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
Dave enters the WVC Hall of Fame not only as one of the best to have played the game but as one of the best coaches in the league.
