Oshkosh Seniors Lead Team (4-7-06)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team prepared for the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference state championship with a 30-28, 30-23, 29-31, 30-25 win over UW-Whitewater in a match held on Thursday (April 6) in Oshkosh. The Titans entered the match ranked #1 and UW-Whitewater #6 in the NIRSA Division I.
On senior night, Mike Semrad (Sr. - Waukesha) got things started for UW-Oshkosh (41-1) as he slammed down five kills in the first game. Phil Brace (Sr. - Madison) added three kills and Jordan Jung (Sr. - Muskego) added five digs in the first stanza.
Jeff Thomas (Sr. - Madison) added six kills on seven attempts in the second game as the Titans had 19 in the game to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. James Bradley (So. - Racine) and Nathan Sederberg (So. - Racine) added four kills each.
Up 29-26 in game three, UW-Whitewater scored the last five points of the game to extend the contest to a fourth game. The Titans only hit .063 in the game and committed 11 hitting errors. UW-Oshkosh regrouped however to put the match out of reach as they connected on 18 kills in the fourth game, six coming from Thomas and four from Nathan Malewiski (Jr. - New Franken).
For the match Thomas had 17 kills on 27 attempts and added two service aces. Nathan Sederberg ended the match with eight kills in only two games played and Jung had a team high nine digs. Brandon Weimann (Sr. - Racine) added three blocks and Andrew Sederberg (Sr. - Racine) dished out 47 assists and had six digs. Brandon Kirkland (Sr. - Racine) came in to tally nine assists in the fourth game and Dave Pautz (Sr. - New Berlin) added four kills, all in the third game.
Heading into the WVC championship, UW-Oshkosh has now beaten 19 nationally ranked opponents in either NIRSA Division I or NAIA with their only loss coming to #4 ranked Michigan State University.
