Nathan Malewiski Named WVC Player of Week (3-10-06)
Nathan Malewiski, a junior middle blocker for UW-Oshkosh II is the March 3-9, 2006 Division II Wisconsin Volleyball Conference player of the week. Malewiski helped the Titans turn some heads, and make a push for the number one seed at the NIRSA Division III championships by taking fifth place at the University of Iowa Classic. In pool play, Malewiski led the Titans to wins over Dominican University (#1 NIRSA Division II), UW-Eau Claire (#5 NIRSA Division II) and a split with the University of Northern Illinois (#23 NIRSA Division I). Needing to beat Iowa State University by 32 points in only two games to make the gold bracket, UW-Oshkosh II manhandled the Cyclones 25-7, 25-10 to sneak in by one point. Malewiski led the Titans with 19 kills on 27 errorless attempts in the match. In the gold bracket quarterfinals UW-Oshkosh II lost 21-25, 25-18, 15-12 to Lakeland College (#3 NIRSA Division I) to capture fifth place in the 23-team event for the second time in three years. For the tournament Malewiski had 59 kills, nine service aces and 11 blocks in 15 games played.
