Oshkosh III Downs Pioneers (2-2-06)
The UW-Oshkosh men's Division III volleyball held on to defeat UW-Platteville II 30-25, 26-30, 30-21, 32-30 in a match held Wednesday (Feb. 1) in Kolf Sports Center. It was the season opener for the Titans' Division III team.

Tied at 21-21 in game one, UW-Oshkosh outscored UW-Platteville 9-4 to end the game and take a quick lead in the match. Brandon Weimann (Sr. - Racine) was behind the serving line during the run collecting four straight points for an insurmountable 29-24 lead. He added six kills in the opening stanza and Jim Hall (Fr. - Appleton) added five kills.

The Titans led 10-8 in game two before the Pioneers scored eight straight points for a 16-10 advantage. UW-Oshkosh fought its way back to tie the score at 21-21, but another quick scoring outburst, this time a four-point run gave UW-Platteville a 25-21 lead. The Titans could not recover as the Pioneers knotted the match at one game each. Hall added seven kills in the game, but UW-Oshkosh was hampered by nine hitting errors and five serving errors.

Tied at 15-15 in game three, UW-Oshkosh went on two, four-point runs to take the game. Josh Groh (Sr. - Menomonee Falls) helped the Titans to a 24-20 lead behind the serving line and Hall added four more points on his serve to help the Titans to the win. Kurt Breier (Jr. - Kimberly) slammed down three kills in the game.

Down 22-16 in game four, UW-Oshkosh's Mark Beck (Fr. - Kimberly) served six straight points to even the score at 22-22. From there the score was tied six times until UW-Platteville had game point at 29-28. After trading side outs, UW-Oshkosh avoided game point again and then rallied to take two straight points to take the match.

Hall led the Titans with 21 kills, nine digs and three service aces. Weimann finished the night with 16 kills and four blocks and Tony Goebel (Fr. - Fond du Lac) chipped in 12 kills on a team-leading 41 attempts. Brian Sigrist (Sr. - West Allis) dished out 55 assists and had three service aces and eight digs.
