Titans Win Battle of Top Teams (1-27-06)
In a clash of two top five NIRSA Division I teams in the nation, UW-Oshkosh (1-0/1-0 WVC) outlasted rival Lakeland College (2-1/2-1 WVC) 30-18, 28-30, 30-27, 30-23 in a match held on Thursday (Jan. 26) in Kolf Sports Center. The Titans entered the match ranked second and the Muskies fourth in the latest poll.
UW-Oshkosh got out to a slow start in game one after missing six serves in Lakeland College's first 10 points. Settling down, the Titans reeled off nine of the next 12 points for a 22-13 lead. UW-Oshkosh coasted to the game one victory after the run as Jeff Thomas (Sr. - Madison) finished with five kills in five attempts in the game.
Leading the entire game, UW-Oshkosh held a 27-24 advantage in game two before Lakeland College outscored the hosts 6-1 to even the match 1-1. Errors plagued the Titans as they missed six serves and had six hitting miscues in the game.
Game three was tied nine times before the Titans inched ahead 26-23 behind two kills by James Bradley (So. - Racine). UW-Oshkosh maintained at least a two point advantage for the remainder of the game before a serving error by the Muskies gave the Titans the victory. Game four wasn't close as UW-Oshkosh forged ahead 9-3 and 18-11 before setting for the seven-point cushion. Nathan Sederberg (So. - Racine) ripped six kills in the game helping the Titans to the 3-1 victory.
Thomas led the Titans with 18 kills and added three service aces. Mike Semrad (Sr. - Waukesha) collected a double-double amassing 12 kills and 10 blocks, including six solo stuffs. Sederberg ended the match with 11 kills and Bradley finished the double-digit kill night collecting 10 putdowns and a team-leading six digs. Andrew Sederberg finished the match with 51 assists and three service aces,
