UW-Oshkosh Adds Outside Hitter to 2007 List (1-24-06)
Michael Cotter, a 6-1 outside hitter from Appleton, Wisconsin has decided that he will attend UW-Oshkosh next year and play for the Titans announced head coach Brian Schaefer.
Cotter helped lead his Appleton North High School team to the WIAA state tournament last season despite playing with a severe knee injury. Playing for head coach Mike Maass, he was a member of the Fox Valley Association Conference champions and was named unanimous first-team all-conference for a second consecutive season. He was also named to the All-State honorable mention team.
After the state tournament Cotter underwent ACL surgery to repair his knee and has opted out of playing junior olympic volleyball this year to rehabilitate. Last season he played for the Oshkosh Nightmares volleyball club and was coached by current UW-Oshkosh player Andrew Sederberg.
Son of Mary Cotter, his intended major is athletic training. He also is a member of the Appleton North tennis team. He joins high school teammate Aaron Lang, Dave Rothering and Eric Waite as members of the Titans 2007 recruiting class.
"I feel that UW-Oshkosh is the perfect fit for me," said Cotter. "It has a great volleyball team and campus. The University also allows me to participate in volleyball and pursue my athletic training major."
"Mike is one of the guys every coach wants on his team," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "He impressed me at our camp that he went to last summer and will only get better. He is a strong, smart student-athlete that will fit nicely into our program.
