8th Annual Alumni Weekend Wrap-Up (1-20-06)
Better late than never. This year's alumni wrap up may be late, but it's bigger than ever.
The 8th Annual Alumni Weekend started off strong on Friday night. A Texas hold'em tournament was added to the night's festivities and Nate "Radio" Malewiski took 1st place. The alumni squad proved rusty in the Sheephead tournament as none of them were at the final table. The highlight of the night happened at 10:30 pm when all-American setter Christina Southward hit a wall.
Saturday started off with the coed luck-of-the-draw quads tournament. No one knows who won and no one really cares. The tournament is more of a several hour warm up than anything else.
The highlight of the women's alumni match was during game point of the final game when Trisha Neveau began screaming "puker" as Christina Southward tried to serve her 6th straight point in a row. She succeeded. Speaking of Soda, Lumpy presented her with a plaque to commemorate being chosen to the NCAA Division III 25th Anniversary team.
The men's alumni match had no highlights.
In what has to be considered a good omen, the 2006 team easily handled the all-star alumni team and beat them for the first time since 1999. The all-star alumni team was a bit depleted this year, but I don't think it would have mattered a whole lot as this year's team is heavily experienced and very good. One highlight of the match was when Cory Schmitt tattooed Jordan Jung. The other highlight was when the alumni turned the tables on the youngens by playing with old school rules in the final game. No double contact and no let serves helped the old guys to an 11-10 win.
The alumni chipped in additional money this year and presented Lumpy with a gift as a thank you for all he's done for both programs and for winning coaching award for both the men's and women's programs in 2005.

Thanks to all of the alumni who took part in the weekend and to all that help support the teams. If you were not able to make it for the festivities and you'd still like to help out the team please contact Lumpy for donation packages which include shirts and other merchandise. We hope to see you all again next year if not sooner.
