2013 NCVF National Championships - UWO Coverage (4-6-13)
Saturday
Oshkosh I found themselves down to #14 CSU-Sacramento 18-12 in set one before mounting a comeback. They made it back to 21-22 before dropping the set 23-25. Set two was all Oshkosh (25-17), as Sacramento couldn't hit around the block (14 on the match). The deciding set was tight until the end. Sacramento was up 10-8 before Oshkosh finished the match out on a 7-3 run, winning 15-11. Next up is #5 University of Arizona, who handed Oshkosh their first loss of the season in Vegas back in January.

Update 1: Oshkosh is headed back to the semi-finals! The first set against #5 University of Arizona was a see-saw battle. Oshkosh built a late lead to 24-22, missed a serve and then had the favor returned for the win. Oshkosh built a lead of 15-10 in set two, but needed most of it to hold of the Wildcats for a 25-22 win. Next up is #6 University of California - Santa Barbara at 6:00pm.

Update 2: Oshkosh finished tied for 3rd for the second year in a row after losing to #6 UC-Santa Barbara 17-25, 24-26. In set one, the score was knotted at 13-13 when Santa Barbara's outside hitter went on a big service run to build a sizable lead that the Titans couldn't recover from. Set two went back and forth, but ended on a service ace at 24-26. A 54-4 season record is incredible, but falling short so close to the finish line two years in a row stings.

Oshkosh II's quest to repeat as Division III national champions is over. The Titans came up short in their opening match against Cal Poly SLO "B" losing 18-25, 25-13, 11-15. Sets one and three were full of service and hitting errors, while set two was full of blocks and good hitting. Oshkosh II finishes the season with a 30-5 record and tied for 5th in the nation.

Friday
Oshkosh I opened up their Championship pool against #17 James Madison University. The Oshkosh block was too much for them to handle and the Titans won easy 25-20, 25-15. In the final match of the day, Oshkosh played #16 University of California-Irvine. UCI was very solid all-around and the Oshkosh serve didn't phase them. The Oshkosh offense finally looked like it was firing on all cylinders, which makes them difficult to beat. Oshkosh won the match 25-21, 26-24. Oshkosh will open up tomorrow's Gold bracket play with #14 California State University - Sacramento at 11:45.

Oshkosh II defeated James Madison University "B" 26-24, 25-15 but then lost their top seed by losing to University of California - Berkeley 22-25, 19-25. Despite the loss, they will still compete in the Division III Gold bracket tomorrow (starting at 9:15am) for a chance to repeat as champions.

Thursday
Oshkosh I was the only top 4 seed to win their pool on Thursday, but it wasn't easy by any means. They were down big in the first set to both University of Central Florida and University of Oregon, but rebounded to take the first set and then went on to crush both teams in the second set, winning 26-24, 25-18 and 26-24, 25-12. In the final match of the day, the Titans stepped up the intensity against #23 University of Southern California. After doubling the Trojans up in set one 25-12, they allowed a late game run in set two, but pulled off the 25-23 win.

Oshkosh II entered as the top seed in Division III and played like it, beating up on Rutgers University "B" (25-15, 25-17), University of Michigan "B" - (25-12, 25-19) and University of California - Davis "B" - (25-17, 25-15). They didn't give up any big runs and played with high intensity on every point.

Wednesday
Both Oshkosh squads were awarded with high seeds going into the 2013 NCVF National Championship Tournament held in Dallas, TX on Apr 4-6, 2013.

Oshkosh I (47-3), enters the tournament as the #2 seed and hopes to recover from last year's heartbreaking loss in the semi-final against Cal Berkely. Despite having a couple of new faces on this year's team the Titans were able to have a very successful year finishing with only three losses and winning the Hoosier-Illini Classic tournament. The Titans will open up with #26 University of Central Florida, University of Oregon and #23 University of Southern California on Thursday.

The Oshkosh II squad (26-3) will look to repeat as the Division III national champions. They were awarded the #1 seed in the tournament and are playing with a lot of confidence, after rolling through the JV division of the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference. First day opponents include: Rutgers University "B", University of Michigan "B" and University of California - Davis "B".
